Bars in Farmington Hills:

New Mandarin Garden

Let's face it, Chinese food is notorious for not being filling. But this couldn't be further from the truth at New Mandarin Garden. Even their crab raging are humongous, and they're only $1 a piece! Another great appetizer is their Sizzlin' Rice soup with mushrooms and celery, perfect for cold Michigan nights. While the food's good, that's only half of the charm at New Mandarin. The interior is very classy, with just a hint of the Orient. Thanks to the owner, a top-notch mixologist, the cocktails are great, and they have a handsome selection of drinks.

The Breakfast Club

Address:
38467 W 10 Mile Rd
Farmington Hills, MI 48335

Voted the best brunch in Metro Detroit, the Breakfast Club definitely lives up to its name. They have two full pages of breakfast options on their menu and tons, and tons of desserts. While they close early in the afternoon, you can still order a hearty breakfast of tomatoes au gratin or even a Caribbean chicken salad or a couple varieties of quesadillas. In all, the breakfast club knows what they do right and they have no intentions of changing that. For a satisfying brunch, there are few places in the area that compare to the Breakfast Club.

Los Tres Amigos

Address:
33200 Grand River Ave
Farmington, MI 48336
Phone:

While you hear a lot about "portion sizes" when it comes to restaurants, Los Tres Amigos in the heart of Downtown Farmington knows how to stuff their guests' stomachs. Take for instance their Fajitas Amigos. It's so packed with chicken, shrimp, beef and peppers that you can hardly see the tortilla underneath. For an idea on what to order for your second visit (I promise you'll be back), try one of their two dozen combination plates. The ambiance is great here, a perfect American diner with subtle Mexican influences.

Village Grill

Address:
31200 W 10 Mile Rd
Farmington Hills, MI 48336

With the air of a slightly more glorified Coney Island, Village Grill has the standard Greek options, but they are best known throughout the city for their breakfast food. Personally, I love the Canadian bacon and cheese omelette, but they have about 10 or so to choose from so there's something for everybody here. There's also a small Coney section on the menu, offering staples like chill these fries and coney dogs. The decor is great here, definitely a step up from most other coneys in the area.

Grand Tavern

Address:
35450 Grand River Ave
Farmington, MI 48335
Phone:

A somewhat new addition to the city, Grand Tavern has been popular ever since it first came here. However, a word of advice: the day and night difference here is well, day and night. During the day, it's a quiet, relaxed restaurant. But at night, it's the city's hottest bar. I've been coming here for years, and it's always a good time. The waitstaff are young, educated about the menu and extremely helpful. Even the appetizers here are excellent, be sure to try their fried pickles with a chipotle ranch dip. The food is amazing, although there aren't that many choices.

Basement Burger Bar

Address:
33316 Grand River Ave.
Farmington, MI 48336
Phone:

Tucked away in the basement of the Village Mall Downton, Basement Burger Bar, or BBB as nearly every local calls it, is my favorite place for a night of food and drink. BBB is a perfect mix of a bar and restaurant. It's never too loud, there's usually always seating, and the waitstaff is awesome! Even though the drinks are great, especially the Mojito White Blossom, their main focus is the make-your-own burger. Take your pick between beef, bison, turkey, chicken and kobe beef, along with a choice of bun, toppings, cheeses and sides.
