Bars in Monroe:

Michigan Bar and Grill

Phone:

The atmosphere of this bar is great. The lighting is perfect for the interior design, and it never gets too loud or crazy, even on the weekends. My first meal at Michigan Bar and Grill was the pan-fried lake perch. Suffice it to say that I've never had better perch in my entire life. However, the past four times I've come here, I just had to get the extra thick prime rib. While they have a large menu, I still can't get myself to order anything else.

J's Smokehouse

Address:
2070 S Custer Rd
Monroe, MI 48161
Phone:

With its great prices, huge portions and quintessential smokehouse ambiance, you won't find a better place for BBQ in Monroe than JJ's. The pulled pork smothered in barbecue choice is the crowd favorite here, and mine as well. And the pineapple coleslaw that comes with it has a taste that will have you wondering why coleslaw isn't always like this. The ribs are great too, and they're smoked to perfection. Also, be sure to check out their weekend lunch specials.

Pete's Garage

Address:
930 N Telegraph Rd
Monroe, MI 48162
Phone:
(734) 243-0343
As you may have guessed from the name, Pete's Garage is one of the most unique restaurants Monroe has to offer. Between the quick wait times, all their TVs and the seemingly thousands of decorations, you'll hardy notice the wait for your food. At Pete's garage, the spotlight is definitely on the chicken wings. I start with the garlic and parmesan, and then I usually end up ordering a second round. They're just too good. The chicken wings also come in all sorts of spicy flavors, like hot, volcano, mild and jerk.

Dolce Vita Italian

Address:
391 N Telegraph Rd
Monroe, MI 48162
Phone:
(734) 241-6100
Here's one of my favorite Italian fusion restaurants. Sure, their standard Italian dishes are delicious — especially their fettuccine alfredo — but dishes like the cajun shrimp alfredo and cajun chicken fettuccine make this restaurant a must-try. While it may sound a little weird, the sushi is definitely a hit here. At any rate, once you pull up a seat to their sushi bar, you'll know you're in the right place. In all, you'll find here a great bar, attentive and welcoming staff and a creativity unlike anything else in Monroe.

Public House

Address:
138 N Monroe Street
Monroe, MI 48162
Phone:

Public House is great for breakfast or dinner. The banana nut pancakes served with bacon are all you need to start the day off with a smile. For something a little sweeter, it's great to know that their owner makes all the desserts and pastries from scratch. If it's your first or only visit, you'll want to start with the blueberry cobbler. It's almost guaranteed you'll come back. Their dinner food is great too: Between the pulled pork, the chicken pot pie and the biscuits and gravy, this place earns five stars in my book.

El Maguey

Address:
1096 N Dixie Hwy
Monroe, MI 48162
Phone:
(734) 240-2591
Before going any further, let it be known that their chunky beef taco is the best taco you'll find in Monroe. However their hot Mexican sandwich and the chile Rellanos are also out of this world. While the restaurant specializes in carry out, there are a dozen or so booths for a quick sit-down meal. For an appetizer, try their made-to-order guacamole and their homemade salsa with tortilla chips. If you're looking for an unpretentious, quick and delicious Mexican restaurant in Monroe, look no further than El Maguey.
