Bars in Royal Oak:

Cafe Muse

Address:
418 S Washington Ave
Royal Oak, MI 48067
Phone:
(248) 544-4749
Voted the best grilled cheese in the Detroit area and one of the best sandwiches in America, Cafe Muse's grilled cheese is eye opening. It's made from three cheeses (fontina, mozzarella and Havarti) and comes with tomatoes and fresh spices. But what makes this sandwich is its secret ingredient — honey. Still, they offer much more than grilled cheese. For first timers, the Plain Jane eggs and cinnamon raisin French toast are sure to make a believer out of you. Their breakfast is a crowd favorite. And finally, the restaurant has a very European atmosphere with the small tables and patio outside.

Bastone Brewery

Address:
419 South Main Street
Royal Oak, Michigan 48067
Phone:

Bastone Brewery is a craft brewpub in the heart of Downtown Royal Oak. The brew chief, Mr. Van Meter, has won over 200 awards for his beer. My personal favorite is the aptly titled Dubbel Vision, the Main Street Pilsner is a great choice for those who like milder beers. Offering everything from mac and cheese to hazelnut scallops, the dinner menu is one of the most diverse in Royal Oak. The lunch menu is just as good, featuring mussels, thin crust pizzas and soups. Best of all, kids eat free on Sundays!

KouZina Greek

Address:
121 North Main Street
Royal Oak, MI 48067
Phone:

With menu choices like The Bobby and the gyro bowl, KouZina is one of the most unique restaurants in Royal Oak, which is a hard title to earn. Their signature offering, The Bobby, looks like a gyro, but it comes packed with lamb, chicken and pork as well as a sauce of your choice. Their feta, lemon and oregano hand-cut fries are unbelievable. The desserts are also mouthwatering. Be sure to try the house yogurt and the Bougusta, a custard pastry sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Bigalora Wood Fired Cucina

Address:
419 South Main Street
Royal Oak, Michigan 48067
Phone:

Although it seems brick ovens are all the rage, the wood fire grill at Bigalora puts out some of the best pizza Metro Detroit has to offer. The pizza is by far the main attraction here, but for me, the meatballs deserve more credit. Made with heritage Piedmontese beef and a tomato sauce that's to die for, the meatballs greatly overshadow their pizza. However, they offer about ten or so different types of pizza, with everything from standard sausage and pepperonis to duck prosciutto and no-cheese marinara. Bigalora is a also a great place for a drink, thanks to its beautiful interior and lengthy wine and alcohol list.

Lockhart's BBQ

Address:
202 East 3rd Street
Royal Oak, MI 48067
Phone:

While Royal Oak is no stranger to upscale, exotic restaurants, Lockhart's remains a diamond in the rough. It's decently priced, and I love the atmosphere. Once you see your plate of Southern style ribs, catfish or one of the many options they offer, you would hardly feel like you're in Michigan anymore. For a morning visit, I absolutely must recommend the Lockhart's Country Breakfast: scrambled eggs, country potatoes, sausage and gravy, and, most importantly, the Michigan-famous Lockhart ribs! After a long night, The Hangover's scrambled eggs, bacon and biscuits and gravy are sure to help you recover.

Pronto!

Address:
608 S Washington Street
Royal Oak, MI 48067
Phone:
(248) 544-7900
A Royal Oak staple since 1991, Pronto! is a must-visit for lunch. Personally, I won't go anywhere else for a weekend lunch date. If you're find yourself in Royal Oak in the morning/early afternoon on the weekends, be sure to take advantage of their special brunch menu. The corned beef hash and Scotch eggs are irresistible! For an omelette, the "Med" (short for Mediterranean) is just as good and served piping hot. This place is known for the quality of their waitstaff, so if you're looking for a stress-free way to enjoy your breakfast time, be sure to visit Pronto! You won't regret it!
